As temperature is rising sharply at Bahrain International Circuit, the second free practice session offered a quite different result from the first session, promising a very interesting Qualifying session this afternoon (at 15:30 local time, 13:30 in Central Europe).
Once solved the brake pad problems suffered this morning, Luca Engstler, at the wheel of the Liqui Moly Team Engstler Volkswagen Golf, over-turned the situation, being the only one to break the 1min10sec barrier, with a time of 1.09.773. “I am much happier with the set-up of the car, it felt really good now, especially when I put on new tyres. I am not sure how much improvement margin there is ahead of qualifying, but we will see”, commented the young German.
Also improving much, Davit Kajaia signed the second-fastest time (1.10.404), although over 6 tenths from Engstler. The Georgian driver of the Mulsanne Racing Alfa Romeo Giulietta felt much happier with the set-up of his car. Only third in this session, Josh Files, with the Lap 57 Honda Civic, could not approach his morning’s best time and complained again about misfiring issues.
Progressing consistently, Giacomo Altoè was fourth with a lap time almost a second quicker than his morning’s result, while his Liqui Moly Team Engstler team mate Brandon Gdovic was struggling with the behavior of the car, which did not improve with new tiyes.
